Finlayson Island road re-opened to traffic

Vehicle traffic is once again flowing to Finlayson Island, after a temporary closure.

Battleford Deputy Fire Chief Geoff Thompson said the decision to open the road to the island from the South Bridge was made following an on-site inspection of the island Friday by Fire Chire Larry Gabruch.

The dike road will however remain closed until early next week when the trenches have been repaired.

Emergency officials were forced put barricades up to keep traffic and curious on-lookers away from the island Thursday evening after rising waters caused serious concern for motorists.

Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie had said the decision to close the road to Finlayson Island was made with the public’s safety in mind.
