Local business community shows support for Humboldt Broncos bus crash victims

Apr 9, 2018 | 5:00 PM

The local Battlefords business community is stepping up to show its support for the victims in the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team bus crash Friday.

Ultra Print co-owner Darren Russell said the company is giving away “Broncos Strong” posters for residents to display in their windows to show support for the victims of the collision.

A semi tractor-trailer collided with the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team’s bus near Tisdale on April 6, leaving 15 dead and 14 injured.

“[The Broncos Strong posters] have a logo on them and a tag about where you can donate funds,” Russell said. “We’re just giving them out.”

The company printed 1,500 posters for the cause, but if more are needed Russell said the firm will print additional posters to meet the demand.

Russell said anyone who wants a poster can come by and pick one up at Ultra Print in North Battleford. They are also available at the local radio station.

“Everybody is kind of stepping up and doing something,” he said.

After creating the posters Monday, Russell also took a bundle of them to the Battlefords North Stars hockey team to hand out to the public.

The posters also include information about where people can donate to the GoFundMe page to help the Humboldt Broncos team players and families affected by the tragedy.

The GoFundMe page surpassed $6 million in donations on Monday. Donations can be made here.

“Anyway to show support is cool,” Russell said. “That’s why we’re doing it.”
