Highway 4 rollover sends woman to hospital with injuries

Apr 9, 2018 | 12:00 PM

A woman was taken to hospital with injuries after being found unconscious in a vehicle Friday afternoon following a rollover on Highway 4 North.

Battlefords RCMP Staff Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt said police, the local fire department and ambulance were notified after receiving a report of the collision at about 4:50 p.m.

A northbound SUV appeared to have veered off the road and rolled before landing in a nearby ditch at the location, north of North Battleford, past Highway 378.

The 69-year-old driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when she was found unconscious in the vehicle, confirmed Woolfitt in an interview with battlefordsNOW on Monday.

“WPD Ambulance attended the scene and provided medical care to the injured driver,” said Woolfitt in a release. “The injuries to the driver were not life threatening, however the driver was transported to Battlefords Union Hospital for further care.”

Woolfitt said alcohol was not a factor in the vehicle rollover. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Battlefords RCMP.

He said Battlefords RCMP want to thank members of the public who remained on the scene to provide assistance following the collision.

Woolfitt said drivers who stopped to help turned on their vehicles’ four-way emergency flashers to alert other drivers to slow-down at the site of the rollover.
