Battleford native Cave plays 2 more games with NHL’s Bruins

In his first National Hockey league call-up in December, Battleford native Colby Cave took an interference penalty on his second shift.

It was certainly one way to get on the scoresheet, but his second time around he made sure to stay out of the box.

Earlier this week the 23-year-old was called up for two more games with the Boston Bruins on an emergency basis, suiting up for contests against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers due to more injuries at the big club.

On Tuesday, the 6’1″, 200-pound forward recorded one shot on goal and one hit in a 4-0 loss to the Lightning. On Thursday he managed one shot on goal, two hits, and one blocked shot in a 3-2 loss to the Panthers.

The former Battlefords AAA Star and former Swift Current Broncos captain centred the fourth line in both games, first playing between NHL veteran Brian Gionta and Tim Schaller, and then playing between Gionta and Danton Heinen. Current Bruin Jake DeBrusk played alongside Cave with Swift Current during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 campaigns, with the two leading the club in scoring in 2015 with 81 and 75 points respectively.

Cave was returned to the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins Friday afternoon, where he has recorded 11 goals and 22 assists in 68 games this season. Providence has six games left in their regular season and currently sit third in the Atlantic Division with a 41-24-3-2 record.
