The sister of a man who was the victim of a vicious assault early Monday morning in North Battleford said the culprits almost murdered her brother and left him like trash in an alley.

Natasha Starchief, the sister of victim Nigel Starchief of Mosquito First Nation, told battlefordsNOW her brother has sustained serious head injuries as a result of the alleged assault.

She said Nigel’s brain is swollen and bleeding from the head injuries he sustained.

Natasha had spoken with a woman related to the people who found her brother on Monday. Starchief said the culprits “almost killed him.” She said “his whole head looked like a balloon.”

“These animals almost murdered my brother, so this isn’t a plain assault,” she said.

Natasha added she heard that her brother had been found in an alleyway bleeding from the head at 1 a.m., Monday and appeared to have been dragged to where he was found.

“They drug (sic) his body out to the alley like a person would do with trash and left him there with just a t-shirt on and nothing else when the weather was over – 20C ” she said.

She said she planned to return to hospital Tuesday afternoon to be with her brother. Natasha added she is still waiting for more information to find out what happened at the time of the assault.

Battlefords RCMP closed off the area near 100 Street and 14 Avenue yesterday to conduct their investigation.

Two men are facing charges related to the assault are in custody and appeared in North Battleford provincial court Tuesday.

James Graham, 27, and Dallas White, 37, both of North Battleford, have each been charged with one count of aggravated assault related to the incident Monday.

Graham and White have each been remanded to Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for separate bail hearings.

Crown prosecutor Lu Zhao was opposed to their release Tuesday in North Battleford provincial court.

Judge Lorna Dyck said the accused are ordered to have no contact with one another or the victim.

The charges against the accused have not been proven in court.
