Feb 7, 2018 | 11:00 AM

Adam Beckman recorded his third multi-point game in the last four outings, but the Battlefords AAA Stars blew a 2-0 lead on Tuesday night in Saskatoon to the Contacts, eventually falling in the game 5-3.

The loss is detrimental to their playoff hopes, as they now only have one game in hand on the Saskatoon Blazers and trail them by three points for the final playoff spot. The Stars are 14-23-1-0, while the Blazers are 14-21-1-3.

In Tuesday’s contest, Beckman assisted on first period goals by affiliate player Eric Robbie and linemate Ty Mosimann to put the visitors up 2-0 after the first period of play.

But Josh Paulhus, Boston Maxwell, and Tyson Janzen scored consecutive goals within a nine-minute span in the second period to give the Contacts a 3-2 advantage. A Tyson Tuck power play goal for the Stars evened the score 3-3, but leading scorer Davin Griffin put Saskatoon back up in front before the second period was done.

The only goal in the thid period was an empty netter from Janzen with one second left to seal the deal at 5-3.

While trailing 4-3 for almost the entire third period, the Stars only managed five shots on goal and were outshot 15-5. They were outshot in the game 44-24 and shorthanded six times in the contest, to the Contact ‘s three.

The Stars are in Yorkton this weekend for a pair of games with the Maulers on Saturday and Sunday. The Maulers currently sit in seventh in the standings, with a 17-15-3-2 record.
