A youth sustained minor injuries after being struck by a motor vehicle near the Battleford Central School on Monday.

Corp. James Fenrich of the RCMP said the incident happened at roughly 9 a.m. A white van travelling on 24th St. in Battleford and had pulled over to the side of the road and a young boy jumped out of the side door. The youth ran around the vehicle and into the street and directly in front of another van.

“In light of this week's week accident, we ask parents and caregivers to please go over the rules of the road with their children so that mishaps do not happen," Fenrich said. "Luckily the young person here escaped without serious injury however it could have been a lot worse."

According to Fenrich the youngster did not look either way before running out in front of the van. The youth was taken to hospital as a precaution and no charges are pending.

He also reminded motorists to drive slow and use extreme caution through school zones and playground areas at all times.

“We need to be aware that children can come out of anywhere so we need to be cognizant of them.”
