Transformer maintenance to cause multiple outages for Biggar residents

Jan 24, 2018 | 1:00 PM

Some Biggar area residents will experience brief power interruptions next week as SaskPower performs routine maintenance and repairs to some transformers in the community.

The work will begin Monday morning and continue until Friday, Feb. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

SaskPower spokesperson Jordan Jackel said the interuptions will not affect everyone in town.

“This particular maintenance will affect only residential customers east of Main St.,” Jackel said. “We will be inspecting the transformers to make sure everything is working the way it’s supposed to.”

Jackel added each individual outage will be approximately 30 minutes long and that this work will take place weather permitting.

“These interruptions will affect approximately 20 to 30 customers per outage or however many residents are attached to a particular transformer,” he added. “We don’t have a timeframe of when customers will be without power and we don’t anticipate any one customer will experience more than one interruption.”

Jackel said residents west of Main St. and commercial customers will likely see similar outages in the next few weeks.
