Organizers say inaugural SJHL/MJHL showcase went well

The event wasn’t even over when Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League commissioner Bill Chow confirmed the first ever SJHL and Manitoba Junior Hockey League combined showcase will return next season.

“We’ve already determined that,” Chow said on Tuesday. “It’s a matter of making sure that we have the ice.”

The inaugural event took place on Jan. 15 and 16 at the Co-operators Centre in Regina, where the top 60 players from each league were split into three all-star teams and played a couple of games against teams from the other league.

During the event, the focus was on the ice, but leading up to it, sponsorship was crucial.

In the end, many came on board to help support the event with Logan Fraser, the public relations/marketing manager for the SJHL, getting credit for much of the heavy lifting.

“He’s done a lot of work in finding sponsors and committing to them,” Chow said. “Now, we’ve proved that we have a great event right here in Regina.”

BattlefordsNOW was there in Regina to see what the first combined showcase looked like.
