Man sentenced for mischief, assault involving local Lighthouse

A man who appeared in North Battleford provincial court Tuesday will be going to jail for six months on charges of mischief and assault involving the Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords.

Sunrise Spyglass pleaded guilty to mischief and assaulting a peace officer on Jan. 5.

The incident took place when police were called to the Lighthouse when Spyglass, who appeared to be intoxicated, was acting aggressively while inside the Lighthouse’s kitchen.    

When police arrested Spyglass, he then started kicking the officer.

Judge Daniel O’Hanlon sentenced Sunrise Spyglass to six months concurrent in custody for the two charges. He recommended the sentence be served at Battlefords Community Correctional Centre if the accused qualifies.

Spyglass must provide a DNA sample to the national database and is prohibited from possessing firearms for 10 years. He also must not possess any prohibited weapons for life.

The remaining charge of obstructing a peace officer was stayed.
