Ice hockey district rosters for both the male and female teams at the upcoming Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford were announced at the end of 2017 and there are lots of locals set to take part.

There will be eight teams competing in each gender, which have been split up based on geography: South East, Regina, South West, Parkland Valley, Prairie Central, Saskatoon, Rivers West, and Lakeland District.

The athletes on the male side are all first-year bantam players (born in 2004), while the athletes on the female side are first or second year bantam players (born in 2003 or 2004). All locals will be representing the Rivers West team.

On the male side, there are three Battleford natives, three North Battleford natives, two Unity natives, one Meadow Lake native, one St. Walburg native, and one Wilkie native.

The Battleford locals to represent the area at the Winter Games are Rhett Dennis, Jordan Grill, and Nate Monchuk, all of whom currently play for the bantam AA Battleford Barons. The North Battleford locals are Kobie Anderson, Coen Grosjean, and Matthew Kellgren. Colbey Frocklage and Hunter Sperle are from Unity; Kyler Lorenz is from Wilkie; Jeremy Hanson is from St. Walburg, and Beaudre LaRocque is from Meadow Lake (LaRocque also plays for the Battleford Barons).

Games in the male division begin on Feb. 19, with the playoffs set for Wed. Feb. 21. The gold medal game is currently scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Civic Centre.

On the female side, there are five Turtleford locals and one player each from Battleford, Edam, Glaslyn, Maymont, Meadow Lake, and Paradise Hill.

The Turtleford locals to represent the area are Jordyn Blais (who plays for the midget AA Sharks), Devrie Bloom, Kiana McNinch, Harley Phillips, and Mia Tough. Daivan Scherman is from Battleford; Ava Cole is from Edam; Mykayla Pylypow is from Glaslyn; Brooke Ferris is from Maymont; Taiya Mazuren is from Meadow Lake; and Lana Duriez is from Parardise Hill.

Games in the female division begin on Feb. 22, with the playoffs set for Sat. Feb. 24. The gold medal game is currently scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Battleford Arena.

For both male and female, the eight teams have been split into two divisions where each team gets three round robin games before seeding determines which type of final they play in (you must finish first in your division to play for gold).
