Sask Energy’s Share The Warmth benefits Battlefords Interval House

Dec 20, 2017 | 1:00 PM

The Christmas season will be a bit brighter at the Battlefords Interval House thanks to the generosity of the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation, SaskEnergy, and the local community.

Battlefords Interval House is a shelter for women and children experiencing family violence or crisis. The facility offers safe accommodations, counselling, referrals, transportation, and a 24-hour crisis line. Executive director Cindy Olchowecki said the donation of winter clothes helps women and children who come to the house with nothing.

“These winter coats and hats are needed so that these people can go outside and go to school,” she said.

It was announced the giving would continue throughout the year as there is just as much need during spring and summer. The Interval House sees an average of 100 women and children each year.

The donations were possible through the BUH Foundation, who applied to SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program. The program provides grants to organizations who serve disadvantaged people such as shelters, youth centres, and crisis intervention facilities. SaskEnergy’s Denise Baker said the Crown Corp was happy to be involved.

“These people need our help and SaskEnergy is glad to be there,” she said.

Donations of gently used winter clothes including coats, jackets, hats, boots, and mittens can be dropped at the BUH Foundation office in the new year.
