AAA Stars lose tight one to Blazers 5-4

Dec 15, 2017 | 1:00 PM

The Battlefords AAA Stars trailed after 20 minutes of Thursday’s game against the Saskatoon Blazers, and from there, they could never quite claw their way back.

They almost did numerous times, but their lone third period goal wasn’t enough, as they fell 5-4 in regulation on the road to fall to 11-12 on the season.

The 2-1 deficit after one period turned to 3-1 eight minutes into the second, thanks to James Form’s second goal of the game for Saskatoon.

Following that, it teetered back and forth the rest of the way.

Adam Beckman made it 3-2, but Cole Nagy then quickly made it 4-2 for the Blazers. Shayde Peterson responded for the Stars even quicker, but then Max Gudnason of the Blazers responded even quicker than Peterson, and so the score was 5-3 for Saskatoon after 40 minutes of play.

Ty Mosimann scored the lone goal of the third period, but it wasn’t enough. Mosimann and Beckman each led the way with two points.

The Stars loss drops their road record to 5-8 this year.

Rookie Carter Serhyenko made 32 saves, as the Stars were outshot 37-27.

Battlefords has a quick turnaround, as they host Yorkton twice this weekend at the Civic Centre. Both matches are set for 2 p.m., the first on Saturday and second on Sunday.
