Nov 28, 2017 | 11:00 AM

There were a flurry of goals for Battlefords United FC’s under-13 boys development team at the first Aurora Open in Saskatoon this past weekend.

Those goals helped lead the club to a gold medal and perfect tournament, as they outscored their opponents 19-4 in their five wins.

“This was their first game against any opponents,” Battlefords United FC 13-U head coach Kelly Villeneuve said in an email. “The team trained for two hours a week for the past two months at the fieldhouse. All players play league as well but are on different teams”

There were nine teams in their division and 115 teams in the tournament overall, from U-9 all the way to U-17.

In the round robin, Battlefords United beat the Aurora Stealth 5-1, the SUSC Strikers 5-1, and the Holandia Birns 3-1.

In the semis, they took down the Lakewood Rowdies 3-1, and then topped the Stealth once more in the final by a score of 3-1.

The next competition for the U-13 development team is this coming weekend, when they head to Prince Albert for a ‘club day’ against Kindersley and Prince Albert. Battlefords United will also be hosting their own ‘club days’ in the new year where teams from other communities are invited to play friendly matches.
