A grand breakfast for Unity farmer

Oct 31, 2017 | 12:00 PM

You could say it was a grand way to wind up the harvest season for Caye Winterhalt of Unity.

Caye was the winner of $1,000 cash prize with the CJNB/CJNS annual Harvest Breakfast held this morning in the Kiwah Lounge of the Gold Eagle Casino.

“This is exciting,” Winterhalt said. “I never win anything so this is quite a thrill.”

The Winterhalts who farm near Unity were among the more than 300 farmers, ranchers and guests on hand from various communities from as far away as Loon Lake, Dorintosh, Edam, and Richard.

“This just tops off a pretty good year this season,” she added. “Our yields are good this year though we could have had more but we missed out on one rain. But all in all we certainly can’t complain.”

Caye was the last name selected during the elimination draw for the grand prize during the finale of today’s event outlasting nine other participants.

The CJNB/CJNS Harvest Breakfast has been an annual tradition for over 10 years and with the help of community sponsors celebrates the hard work of the farming community this season.
