Town of Battleford remembering vets with banner

Oct 22, 2017 | 8:00 AM

The Town of Battleford will pay tribute to veterans with an honourary banner this remembrance day.

The large banner displays the words “we remember,” and features a poppy insignia.

“It shows the town’s support of remembrance day, and all the veterans who fought for our country,” Mayor Ames Leslie said following council Monday. “It’s just one small little gesture the town can do to show its support for remembrance day and all the vets.”

Council hasn’t decided where to hang the banner yet but is considering displaying it on the facade of a building on the west side of Battleford, located near the Co-op gas station.

“They are looking to hang it as close to the top of the building where it can be seen on the highway at the interchange through town, so as many people can see it as possible,” the mayor said.

The cost for the 20×4 ft. banner is $320, but if the town orders it early it can save 15 per cent, bringing the cost down to about $275.

“It’s definitely something the town can utilize for the next 10 years,” Leslie said.
