High school, college under boil water advisory

Sep 21, 2017 | 12:00 PM

The City of North Battleford has issued a boil water advisory for the North Battleford Comprehensive High School and North West College following a water main break Tuesday on Diefenbaker Drive.

City crews repaired a burst valve in the water main on Wednesday, so the high school and college are under an advisory while the city completes its sampling.

City staff will notify the facilities when the advisory is lifted which is expected to take from five to seven days.

City manager Jim Puffalt said there were plans to complete some road paving in the same area where the water main break occurred. He said it was fortunate the break happened before the city started the project rather than after.

“If it burst after we paved, all that pavement would have been wasted,” he said. “We’re not happy there is a water [main] break, but certainly thankful that it happened before we paved the area.”

The Comprehensive High School is providing large water jugs at various stations for students, with the cost covered by the Living Sky School Division.

North West College corporate services manager Victoria Lamb-Drover said the college is also making fresh potable water available for everyone.

“It’s not going to impact us negatively. We’re quite capable of handling it,” the college’s corporate services manager Victoria Lamb-Drover said.
