Another huge donation to the 2018 Winter Games

The 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games committee is one financial step closer to becoming a reality.

The committee received a $10,000 donation from North West College in North Battleford and have agreed to allow a portion of the college to be used as the Athletes’ Village to house participants.

“North West College has a long standing tradition of supporting the Battlefords in its economic, social and cultural growth,” Tavia Laliberte said, President and CEO of North West College. “Sponsoring the games and hosting the athletes’ village is an ideal fit with who we are and what we do.”

The Athletes’ Village was originally planned in the North Battleford Comprehensive High School, but the college’s promise has made planning a whole lot easier according to games manager Nicole Clow.

“This donation from the North West College was significant,” Clow said. “Financially it will help with what we can do and how our planning with the games can take place.”

“The use of their facility as part of the Athletes’ Village is a huge bonus as well,” Clow added. “It will allow the athletes’ care and comfort levels to increase and if they are happy hopefully they will compete better and make for a great experience for everyone.”

In July, Pattison Agriculture Ltd. donated $40,000. The Saskatchean Winter Games, from Feb. 18 to 24, hosts over 1,800 of the province’s top young athletes competing in 17 sports.
