Battlefords RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in finding a missing 55-year-old male who walked away from the Saskatchewan Hospital mental health facility in North Battleford Firday night at roughly 8 p.m.

The male’s name is Gordon Merrick and he is a committed patient at the Saskatchewan Hospital. He did not return from a 30 minute absence on the hospital grounds.

RCMP said Merrick was last seen near Highway 16 on the east side of North Battleford, stating he wanted to visit family. He is described as First Nation, roughly 5’8”, 180 lbs, brown eyes, black hair, has a goatee and wears glasses.

Police believe may have begun hitch hiking to get to Regina, where his family is.

RCMP said they have no reason to believe Merrick poses a direct threat to the general public but, he should not be approached.

Police ask anyone who sees Merrick to immediately contact the Battlefords RCMP, their local police service or call 310-RCMP. RCMP added in an emergency, dial 911.
