Art Alley project continues to bloom in N.B.

The North Battleford Art Alley project to beautify the city continues to grow and has two new projects.

Local artist Jodi Miller created a Canada 150 mural featuring tulips on the back exterior wall of the Western Financial Group building in North Battleford on 100th St.

Fellow artist Lindsay Macnab is in the process of completing her mural on the alley wall of this same building.

Her project focuses on a four season theme and will include depictions of a wheat pool elevator and a train in motion – a “throw-back to historic North Battleford,” as Shelley Bernier, executive director of North Battleford Business Improvement District, describes it.

“We hope to do one more project,” Bernier said, adding organizers are waiting to decide.

Bernier said both Miller’s and Macnab’s creations will help brighten up the downtown.

Macnab said she is enjoying taking part in the project this year. In particular she said she loves the “freedom of creativity” in taking part in the project.

“I feel fortunate to be included” in the Art alley project,” she said. “I think it’s a really good idea.”

On Miller’s project, Bernier said she “loves the fact” that Miller’s project is presented as an interpretation of the Canadian Flag, featuring red and white tulips.

“It’s Jodi’s take on her patriotic view, and a celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary,” she said. “I think it is a bright and beautiful addition to cheer up our downtown core. It’s a great continuation of our Art Alley project, and the beautification we plan to do in North Battleford’s downtown core.”

Bernier said she appreciates Macnab’s project was inspired by the city’s history.

This is the second year of the Art Alley project.

“Art Alley is a project that is done in conjunction with the city of North Battleford as well as the Battlefords RCMP,” Bernier said. “It’s a collaborative project… We are trying to promote safety and safe places, as well as beautify and maintain our downtown core, and make it a great, safe place people can enjoy again.”
