The Town of Wilkie, like many other communities in our area, are gearing up for a huge celebration to mark Canada’s 150 anniversary on July 1 with a huge slate of activities for young and old alike.

“It’s going to be a great party and it begins Canada Day with our pancake breakfast,” said town administrator Lana Gerein. “The Wilkie Museum’s annual Bicycle Decorating Contest will follow the breakfast and we encourage everyone to decorate their bike, scooter, wheelchair what have you to perhaps win a prize.”

Some events have already been held in advance of Canada Day like the fireworks, which were held in conjunction with the Jump into Summer event on June 9, and the annual Strawberry Tea was held June 14 as well as the Museum’s Canadian Day Scavenger hunt on June 28.

“One of the highlights of our Canada 150 celebrations will be the Wilkie Elk Walk,” Gerein added. “Participants are asked to collect pledges and they can walk, bike, run whatever they want to do.”
