Wishing well sponsor officially recognized

May 9, 2017 | 2:21 PM

It was a long time coming, however the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) and Scott Campbell Dodge finally unveiled their new fundraising wishing well last week that replaced the well that was stolen from the lobby of the hospital in late November.

“It was a difficult time for us,” said Claudette McGuire, Executive Director of the BUH. “To think someone would steal from a charity, especially at Christmas time was quite emotional.”

However there is always a silver lining in every cloud and when the management team at Scott Campbell Dodge heard the plight of the BUH they immediately stepped up and donated the necessary funds so the organization could purchase a new wishing well.

“Recognizing Scott Campbell Dodge for their generosity is the least we could do. I mean, the day after the story aired we got a call from Trent (Gatzke) saying they were going to buy as another one,” McGuire added.

Scott Campbell Dodge General Manager Trent Gatzke said it was something they immediately wanted to do for the BUH.

“We felt it was important especially at Christmas to make sure this ongoing fundraiser continued for the hospital,” Gatzke said. “We believe in this community and wanted to do something positive to give back.”

The bright shiny new wishing well stands proudly in the BUH lobby once again and Claudette McGuire once again thanked the community for the support the foundation received.

“Living in a community like the Battlefords that steps up when someone or some charity is in need is certainly a great feeling.”
