Battlefords newest troupe hits Theatrefest stage tonight

Battlefords newest theatre troupe will be in the spotlight tonight as Theatrefest 2017 continues at the Dekker Centre in North Battleford. The troupe, Tale Spinner Theatre, will present their adaptation of Stephen Massicotte’s Mary’s Wedding.

The play features Jeanna Walker as Mary and Rick Kostiuk as Charlie. Set against the backdrop of WWI, Mary unexpectedly finds her first love on the night before her wedding.

Tale Spinner Theatre was formed in 2016 and produces live theatre productions that feature performances for both professional actors and students. Mary’s Wedding is their biggest undertaking to date.

The play is described as a story of love, hope, survival, separation and regret, and uses a dream motif to tell the dramatic story of mismatched lovers in the face of war.

Theatrefest runs until Saturday at the Dekker Centre with the doors opening at 7 p.m. and the curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are $20 per show and available at the Dekker Centre box office.
