Town helping with RCMP Musical Ride coming to Battleford

Apr 18, 2017 | 12:00 PM

The Town of Battleford will be offering its support to help with preparations for the RCMP Musical Ride coming to the local area in June when the event is on tour this summer.

The Musical Ride will perform at the Fort Battleford National Historic Site on June 3 and 4.

“Whenever we have a Musical Ride, we do attract a lot of people,” Town of Battleford Coun. Gordon Yarde said during Monday’s council meeting. “The last time, it was the wettest day on earth but a lot of people came out.”

The Ride Tour will coincide with Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations.

During 2017 the RCMP Musical Ride will complete a nationwide tour to honour the special occasion.

Battleford council approved providing $3,000 in financial support to Fort Battleford to help with the cost of crews and stabling the horses for the event. It will also help provide bleachers for seating during the event itself. The horses are expected to arrive June 1 and leave June 5 while the stable facility will be set up on May 29 and 30.

The horses will stable in the North Battleford Civic Centre during their visit. The Battleford Arena, used during the RCMP Musical Ride’s 2015 visit here, wasn’t available for the dates for this year’s tour.

Fort Battleford is only one of three locations in Saskatchewan where the ride will perform this year.
