Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival talent dazzles at gala

The Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival’s talented performers took to the Dekker Centre stage Wednesday night — dancing, singing and dazzling the audience with their skills in the performing arts.

This show marks the 86th year of the “Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival” since the event began.

“Our community is one of the few that have run a festival every single year since we started, so we are quite proud of that,” said Kiwanis president Dianne Gryba.

This year, the festival ran from April 2 to 9 and wrapped up with the gala and awards show at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, Wednesday.

Participants in the gala performed in a variety of categories, including speech arts, dance, singing, strings, piano and woodwinds, and many received awards for their performances.

It is only recently the gala has been held at the Dekker Centre.

“It’s pretty special for the kids to perform on the big stage with proper lighting,” Gryba said. “It’s quite a treat for them.”
