New ENT surgeon excited for Radiothon

Apr 12, 2017 | 5:00 PM

The CJNB, Q98 and the Rock 93.3s ‘On The Air for Health Care Radiothon” is one month away and the new Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon at the Battlefords Union Hospital couldn’t be more excited.

Since setting up his practice in North Battleford in October 2016, Dr. Abraham Awobem has been more than impressed by the work the BUH Foundation does and the support of the community to the hospital.

“I can’t wait for this radiothon,” said Dr. Awobem. “Since I’ve been here I’ve seen the tremendous work that the (BUH) Foundation does to ensure good health care for the community.”

On The Air for Health Care will begin at the BUH main lobby on Friday, May 12. The radiothon is hoping to hit a goal of $380,000 to replace aging equipment in the ENT department.

“The equipment we have on hand now needs to be replaced,” Awobem added.” Equipment like the nerve monitor and the operating microscope and all the components that go with it are all helpful to my practice in the community.”

Originally from Leeds England, Dr. Awobem said that it estimated that one third of visits to family physicians are directly related to Ears, Nose and Throat issues and the percentage is actually higher in children.

Awobem was also astonished that residents had to travel more than an hour to be treated.

“I see it as a privilege to be part of this community to help treat people right here so that they don’t have to leave the community to get the care they deserve,” Awobem noted.

During the 12-hour On Air for Healthcare Radiothon, groups, businesses and individuals are encouraged to visit the main lobby of the BUH office on May 12 and present their donations which will be aired live.
