Slaughtered puppy found; RCMP say machete was used

Apr 12, 2017 | 12:00 PM

It was a gruesome discovery.

On Sunday night, Meadow lake RCMP were called to the off-leash dog park on 9th Avenue East where the body of a puppy had been discovered.

The dog was found with a wound to the head and Meadow Lake RCMP Sgt. Ryan How did confirm on Wednesday that a machete was found close to the murdered animal.

A volunteer with the Meadow Lake Humane Society told meadowlakeNOW the area has been of concern in recent months with garbage, dead wildlife carcasses being left in the park, as well as motorized vehicles being driven on the premises.

“I can say its not uncommon for our detachment to come across animals that aren’t cared for properly or are abused,” said How. “However, this is unique and we have no reason to believe that this is anything more than an isolated incident right now.”

With the investigation on-going, RCMP are releasing few details about the dog’s breed or sex.  Sgt. How said if anyone has any information on the killing of this puppy to please contact Crime Stoppers or the Meadow Lake RCMP.
