Cook-Searson re-elected as Lac La Ronge Chief

The votes have been tallied and Tammy Cook-Searson will remain on as Chief of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band for a fifth term.

Cook-Searson secured 1,703 votes to reclaim her office for another term, nearly twice the number received by the runner-up, Bruce McKenzie, and significantly ahead of all other candidates. Cook-Searson was first elected Chief in 2005.

Tracey Halkett and Keith Mirasty were elected as councillors for Little Red Reserve, securing 67 and 123 votes respectively. Gerald Robin McKenzie will represent the band as councillor for Grandmother’s Bay Reserve after winning by a significant margin with 105 votes. Morin Lake Reserve will be represented by Norman Ross and Kenny Ratt will act as councillor for Nemeiben River Reserve.

The three councillors representing Stanley Mission Reserve will be Larry Charles, Linda Charles and John Patrick Roberts, while the La Ronge and Kitsaki Reserves will be represented by Michael Bird, Ann Ratt, Sam Roberts and Dennis Sanderson who won a close-fought race.
