Rotary celebrates fathers and daughters at gala

Dressed in their formal best, Battlefords-area fathers and daughters enjoyed spending some quality time together Friday evening, while also helping a good cause.

The event was part of the Rotary Club of the Battlefords’ Second Annual Father-Daughter Gala, held at the Tropical Inn in North Battleford.

“It’s to celebrate fathers and daughters,” Club President Warren Williams said of the fundraiser. “The majority of funds we raise we put back into the Battlefords.”

Because Rotary is an international organization, Willaims said some of the fundraisers the club organizes also help Rotary’s projects to sponsor various youth initiatives and also benefit larger global causes such as working to help eradicate polio. 

About 160 people attended the local gala where fathers and daughters, and also some mothers and family friends who wanted to join in, came together for a fun night out.

Williams said Rotary’s target for the Father-Daughter Gala was to raise about $10,000. 

The evening included dinner, a candy bar for the kids, a silent auction, a raffle for prizes, as well as live entertainment.
