Library to offer ‘Speed Friending’

Mar 6, 2017 | 10:44 AM

While most people are familiar with Speed Dating, North Battleford Library hopes area residents will be keen on trying something new it’s offering — Speed Friending.

The North Battleford Library wants to give new residents, new immigrants, seniors and anyone looking to make friends both an opportunity to meet new people, while also learning about the library’s programs and what groups are available to join in the community.

Speed Friending is open to adults 16 years of age and older and takes place at the library on Saturday, Mar, 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Library Reference Technician Carla Lamontagne is helping organize the event.

“We wanted to offer a new program for people to meet new people,” she said. “It’s a safe way to get to meet people,” said Lamontagne.

She added North Battleford has many new immigrants moving to the area recently, so this event will also give them an opportunity to get to know their neighbours and what the library has to offer.

She describes “Speed Friending” as a “low-pressure way” for people to make new friends and connections.

People attending the event will spend six minutes chatting one-on-one with another person taking part, and then will move on to the next person. Lamontagne hopes to have about 20 people participating.

Anyone interested in attending Speed Friending will need to register by March 14 by calling 306-445-3206 or by email at ref.desk@lakeland.lib.sk.ca
