Dekker Centre to host Celtic band for St. Patrick’s Day

Feb 24, 2017 | 1:00 PM

The spirit of the Emerald Isle will come alive through music, song, food and drink this St. Patrick’s Day as the Dekker Centre presents “The Best St. Paddy’s Day Party” on Friday, March 17.

Party goers will be entertained throughout the event which kicks off at 7 p.m. with traditional Irish dancing and Irish musicians performing in the lobby of the centre. The evening will then move inside to the main stage, being dubbed “McGinty’s Pub” for the evening, as popular Celtic band Back Of the Bus takes to the stage from 9 p.m. until midnight.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said band member Jim Walls. “We have great music, great food and dancing for everyone to enjoy.”

Back of the Bus is a high-energy party band based out of Saskatoon and plays contemporary and traditional Irish, Scottish and East coast music along with many favourite jigs and reels.

“Traditionally every spring the Dekker Centre hosts a fundraiser and this year we wanted to do something a bit different. Yes, we will still be looking to raise money, but our emphasis will be to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere as well,” Wall said.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the raffle draw for a trip for two to Ireland.

“Only 250 tickets will be sold and it’s kind of exciting to know that someone is going to go to Ireland once the evening is over.” Walls added. “Just think someone is going to Ireland for just $20.”

Tickets are available online or at the Dekker Centre box office.
