Mental health association wins airtime award

Feb 23, 2017 | 11:00 AM

This year is shaping up to be a banner year for the Battlefords branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Not only is the organization set to move into their new location in the former North Battleford Lion’s Den later this spring, but it was announced today the non-profit group is the winner of the CJNB/CJNS-The Rock-Q98 Community Airtime Award for 2017.

The $100,000 airtime package is awarded yearly to a non-profit group or organization that meets selection committee criteria.

“I can’t say how overwhelmingly grateful we are for this,” said Jane Zielke de Montbrun, executive director of the association.

“As a non-profit organization you don’t typically have money to spend on something like this. Advertising is usually kept at a minimum because you are spending money in other areas in providing services to the community.”

Once a year, non-profit groups and organizations are encouraged to submit an application for the Community Airtime Award, which the selection committee then examines. The committee is made up of CJNB/CJNS-Q98 and The Rock staff and members from award sponsor Norsask Farm Equipment.

In 2016, the Battlefords Humane Society was the recipient of the award.

The Canadian Mental Health Association Battlefords branch is currently in the midst of a fundraising campaign of $615,000 for the new facility and the current total is approximately $316,000.

“Being in this community since 2009, I am amazed at the way the people of the area step up when they see a need,” Zielke de Montbrun added.” It’s one of the things I love about the Battlefords is how everyone comes together to make this a better place to live.”

Zielke de Montbrun also noted that if everything remains as it is, the Battleford Branch is hoping to open the new facility during Mental Health Week in May.
