Shop the Battlefords app touted as a success

Dec 23, 2016 | 6:03 AM

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce hailed their new shopping app a success at their awareness campaign finale.

The rollout of the Shop the Battlefords app finished Thursday night at Gold Eagle Casino after weeks of touting the new app.

Chamber president Jay Bottomley said 793 shoppers collected points and used the app from the launch in October to this week, spending more than $343,000.

He said residents have been into stores they’ve never ventured into before thanks to the app.

“This app has been a new, innovative way to try to encourage people to shop locally,” he said. “A lot of businesses really took it by the horns and trained all their staff in it and a lot of the businesses that got involved are very happy with the turnout.”

To encourage shopping locally, Shop the Battlefords offers promotions at participating stores and points for venturing into sponsored businesses or donating to charity.

Bottomley said the app will hopefully continue to be useful after the holiday season shopping rush for events such as Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

More than $10,000 of prizes were handed out at the finale event, including electronics, accessories and furniture from participating stores.
