TORONTO — The Canadian Football League has fined 11 players from the Grey Cup champion Ottawa Redblacks for wearing improper socks during the league’s championship game last month in Toronto.

The Western Divison champion Calgary Stampeders had 12 players fined for various dress code violations during the Nov. 27 game, a CFL spokesman confirmed in an email.

Ten Calgary players wore non-uniform colour socks while two players wore cleats with logos that were not from the league’s official outfitter. The Redblacks’ violations were all for non-uniform colour socks.

“The dress code policy has been agreed to by the league and the CFLPA as part of the CBA,” said CFL communications director Paulo Senra. “The dress code policy is sent to the teams at the beginning of each season, which is then communicated to the players. The policy is posted in each locker-room as well.
