Free bus rides for local shoppers

Dec 5, 2016 | 12:57 PM

Who says there are no free rides in life? Every Saturday during the holiday season when you shop locally and use the Battleford Transit System, you can ride for free.

Treena Rathwell of the Battleford Transit System told battlefordsNOW during the Christmas season it is all about supporting the community.

“During the month of December it’s about caring and supporting our local businesses,” Rathwell said. “It’s as simple as getting on the bus at your stop and telling the driver you are shopping the Battlefords. Whether you are going to Canadian Tire, the Co-op Shopping Centre or even downtown, we will get you there to do your Christmas shopping free of charge.”

Rathwell said riders have two buses they can use to get back and forth.

“As of April we expanded and added a second bus to serve the community. Our green bus travels clockwise while our blue bus heads counter clockwise. All in all, it cuts down tremendously on wait times for our passengers,” she said.

Customers will also have a chance to win a free month pass when they travel this December. Passengers can ask the driver for a ballot to enter a pass with each ride they take.

To find out more, shoppers can visit the Battleford Transit System Facebook page or the City of North Battleford website for the transit route.
