Hospital staff wish for return of yellow well

Nov 21, 2016 | 1:00 PM

Something big and heavy was reported missing from the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Friday morning around 10:30 a.m. — a yellow wishing well.

The fundraising wishing well sat in front of the gift shop at BUH, but all that remains now is an empty space.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay with the Battlefords RCMP said they are hoping some witnesses come forward with information.

“We’re just hoping somebody saw something while they were in BUH during that time period that might jog their memory,” Tremblay said. “We’re going to continue to keep it on crime watchers for a while and hopefully we’ll get someone who saw something.”

The well collects cash and change for the BUH Foundation and the money is put to use where it’s most needed in the hospital.

Claudette McGuire, executive director of the BUH Foundation, said it’s sad that money used for charitable good was taken.

“It’s sad that this has happened. It’s for charity, it’s for the hospital, it’s for the community,” McGuire said. “What we’d like is the wishing well back.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
