Municipality election results from across the northwest region

Municipalities across Saskatchewan headed to the polls yesterday, and towns, villages and regional municipalities in the northwest saw a mixed bag of new and familiar faces.  

The town of Unity elected councillor Ben Weber as the new mayor. Incumbent councillors Brent Weber and Brian Vanderlinde were elected to council as well as new councillors Bob Abel, Rick Hill, Doreen Bonogofski and Curtis McLean.

In Cut Knife, Gwenn Kaye was re-elected as mayor. Kaye will be joined on council by incumbents Doug Robertson and Daryl Sperling with Lyle Cronk, Cindy Heupel, Jason Lloyd and Fred Roschker rounding out council as newly elected members.

The mayor and council in the town of Wilkie were all acclaimed. David Ziegler took the title of mayor, followed by councillors Carol Delainey, Kathy Heilman, MaryEllen Herzog, Clarke Jackson, Alex Majewski and Jason Nissen.

Maidstone has a new mayor by acclamation, Brennan Becotte. The town councillors all won by acclamation as well, including Brenda Marfleet, Blair Ryan, Marc Telenga, Dale Dielschneider, Chris Zerr and Ray Bodnarek.

In the town of Hafford, Ron Kowalchuck is back as mayor, serving since 2012. In council, only Victoria Moses defended her seat. Robyn Paulow, Joan Matechuck, and Bonnie Sendecki are all newly elected.

Elected in the town of Blaine Lake, Allan D. Sorenson will serve as mayor, followed by six councillors, Jeffrey Bennett, Bev Breland, Kitty Larson, Kyle Onishenko, Deborah Rodwin, and Jason Weber.

The village of Meota elected John MacDonald their mayor, receiving 141 votes to his opponent, Nicolle Griffith’s, 36. Brandon St. Amant, Maurice Gauthier, Betty Johnson, and Teresa Ducharme were elected on as councillors.

Returning as mayor, Larry McDaid won by acclamation in the village of Edam. Sitting on council are Kyle Esquirol, Tyler Webber, Ian Webber and Barry Weitzel.

Gary Von Holwede is returning for another term as mayor of Spiritwood. Voted in for another term are incumbents James Bedi, George Pretli and Bryan Wingerter while Brad Nemish, Shannon Beaulac and Debbie Allan were all newly voted in.

Joe Beckman was acclaimed as reeve in the R.M. of Battle River. Division 1 councillor Stewart Mitchell and Division 7 councillor Pat Scherman are also acclaimed. In Division 3, Bob Froleck defeated incumbent Barry Williams with 57 votes to Williams’ 33.

The R.M. of Meota headed to the polls to elect two new council members, Richard Lesmeister and Vernon Seabrook. New reeve Sherry Jimmy was elected by acclamation as were council members Larry Clarke, Jim Eischen, Ina McOuat and David Code.  

Reeve and council for the R.M. of North Battleford were all acclaimed. Dan Bartko will remain reeve and the council will continue to include Robert Hjudic, Todd Winterhalt, Todd Illingworth, Curtis Rousseau, Ryan Shepherd and Gilles Fransoo.
