Teenager arrested after bear mace attack

One suspect was arrested and two remain at large after a bear mace attack early Friday morning.

According to a news release, the victim said she was assaulted with bear mace while walking in the area of Pioneer Ave. in North Battleford and the suspects fled in a vehicle. RCMP responded at roughly 3 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14.

Police said they later located the vehicle and, with the help of Police Dog Services, one 17-year-old suspect. He was taken into custody and charges including assault with a weapon are pending.

The two other suspects were identified but police said they remain at large.

Battlefords RCMP received roughly 40 other calls for service over a 24-hour period ending at 6 a.m. Friday morning.

According to a media release, two people were charged with theft under $5,000 in separate incidents Thursday afternoon. A 44-year-old woman was charged after a report of shoplifting at a business on Carlton Tr and a 55-year-old man was charged after a report of shoplifting at a business on 101st St.
