Community supporting children of couple who died inside Delisle home

Community members are rallying support after two people died in a small Saskatchewan town over the weekend.

Darby Maurice and Calvin Dunn, both 26 years old, were found dead inside a home in Delisle, near Vanscoy, Saturday night.

Police have not confirmed what happened or if the deaths are considered suspicious at this time. Autopsies were scheduled this week to determine cause of death.

The couple left behind two children, described by a family friend as pre-school aged, who are now with their mother’s parents in Saskatoon.

Amanda Czank lives in Delisle and created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the grandparents, who’ve taken time off work to care for the kids.

“We are a community together, so when one person hurts or something happens—we all come together,” Czank said, adding some people in the area have banded together to care for the yard outside the family’s home.

“The biggest thing is her kids. I wanted to make sure they were taken care of and getting anything they needed.”

Czank said she first learned of the deaths from a local news article posted to a community Facebook page.

“When I read that no one even knew who they were … I wanted to make sure people knew she was known in the community, even though she was new.”

Czank knew Maurice from a local mom’s group, but wasn’t as familiar with Calvin Dunn. She said the couple moved to the town about two years ago.

“(Maurice) was quiet, but she loved to bake. She’d always offer to make homemade cookies to our play group.”

The family friend said the grandparents are grateful for the donations thus far. She said they are putting all monetary offerings into a trust fund for the kids.

Delisle is located 45 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.
