A new gas station in town plans to provide a more convenient experience for semi-truck drivers passing through the city.

The official opening of the Co-op Cardlock happened with a ribbon cutting ceremony at its location in North Battleford Wednesday, Aug. 24. Mike Nord, general manager of the Discovery Co-op, said there are hopes the Cardlock will get more trucks to stop in the city.

“It will help the community because there will be people stopping here where they may not have stopped before,” Nord said. “Being on Highway 16 a lot of trucks come through here and now they have a place to stop.”

According to Nord the Discovery Coop put $2 million into the new site which can handle double the flow the old location received. The station has new equipment designed to give drivers a more convenient experience.

“One of the things we have is diesel exhaust fluid which our big trucks need. They’d normally have to carry it out in big jugs but now they can pump it directly into their tank,” Nord said.

According to Nord there are Cardlocks across Canada and they can only be used with a membership card which works like a credit card but requires an application. He added cars and other vehicles can fill up at the stations as they aren’t just for trucks.
