Aug 23, 2016 | 12:39 PM

A smaller cabinet has been announced by Premier Brad Wall.

The number of cabinet members has been reduced by one minister to 17, including Wall. A press release states the reduction will save taxpayers approximately $450,000 a year.

Five MLAs are entering the cabinet, including one who is re-entering.

Tina Beaudry-Mellor becomes Minister of Social Services and minister responsible for the status of women, Dave Marit becomes Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, Bronwyn Eyre becomes Minister of Advanced Education, Joe Hargrave becomes Minister of Crown Investments Corporation, Saskatchewan Government Insurance and Saskatchewan Transportation Company and Ken Cheveldayoff re-enters cabinet as Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport and minister responsible for the Public Service Commission.

Ministers Kevin Doherty, Lyle Stewart, Greg Ottenbreit and Gordon Wyant remain in the cabinet.

Rosthern-Shellbrook MLA Scott Moe is the new Minster of the Environment taking over for Battlefords MLA Herb Cox, who requested to leave the cabinet due to the return of his cancer.

In addition, Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison is now the Minister of the Economy, minister responsible for the Global Transportation Hub and minister responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.
