Traveling acrobats bring a high-flying show to the Battlefords

While the i-Flip acrobats will perform almost 10 times this week in the Battlefords, every show will offer a little something different.

“We try to surprise each other in shows by throwing down new tricks. As much as it is for the audience, it’s also for us,” Tyler Clemmer said. “It’s never the same show which is what I love, that we’ll try to one-up each other or one-up ourselves.”

Clemmer and four other performers, Marine Crest, Jeff Pratt, Laurence Vallée and Felix Di Pasquale, made a stop at the Battlefords Exhibition Grounds for Northwest Territorial Days. They perform three times each day during the fair.

The performers come from all over – from Montreal to Marseille, France. The team also travels around the world, heading to the United States and Germany later in the year.

The act includes several pieces of equipment. Performers do aerial tricks high above the crowd, flip down a trampoline track and combine trapeze with bungee dives.

According to Clemmer, the trampoline wall is the most popular part of the act. He said it’s relatively new on the circus scene, but is becoming popular. Three performers weave in and out of boxes, jump onto a trampoline the roof and run up the sides. Clemmer said it’s special because there are so many tricks are possible and a lot of audiences have never seen anything like it before.

Clemmer said his favourite part of every show is meeting members of the audience.

“This is the best job in the world,” he said. “I get to bounce on a trampoline and make people smile, I mean there’s no other job that allows me to travel around, do what I love to do and just put smiles on kids’ faces.”

The i-Flip team was scheduled to perform three more shows Friday, Aug. 19 on the last day of Northwest Territorial Days, before moving on to Lethbridge.
