Kal Tire, A&W planned for N.B.’s southeast

Construction sites are springing up in North Battleford’s southeast commercial area.

Site work is beginning at 592 110th St. for a new Kal Tire location. The chain is relocating from its current location on 100th St. in the north end.

Nikki Kinakin, a spokesperson for the Vernon, B.C. based company, said the new location will include a nearly 10,000 sq. ft. building on a site of nearly two acres, with six service bays and a two lane truck pad. The existing location is 6,000 sq. ft. and the site is described as constricted.

Kinakin said the new location would be better for the combined retail and commercial outlet.

“We have our retail customers who typically are driving passenger vehicles, light trucks, SUVs. Commercial is much more of a fleet, larger vehicles,” she said. “That would offer a hub for that type of customer. We find that for certain locations that’s a better type of store environment.”

She said the facility is expected to be open by March 2017.

Work has begun for a new A&W restaurant at 11401 Railway Ave. E.

Ryan Picklyk, A&W’s director of real estate for Western Canada, said it would be a second location, as the existing restaurant on 100th St. N. would continue to operate.

He didn’t have a timeline to when the second restaurant would open, but said there would be more information as the project moves closer to completion.

A&W has more than 850 locations across Canada.
