North Battleford residents asked to watch their water

Jul 5, 2016 | 3:21 PM

July maintenance means the City of North Battleford is asking the public to conserve water.

Various projects, such as the inspection of the water tower, fire hydrant flushing and the dredging of the North Saskatchewan River will affect water quality and pressure.

Tammy MacCormack, environmental manager with the city, said there aren’t going to be any hard and fast water restrictions.

“We just need people to be mindful about the amount of water that they’re using,” she explained. “We’re not going to be restricting anybody telling them ‘no you’re not allowed to water your lawn’, it’s more just ‘be mindful of how much you’re using.’”

Residents will still have to follow the odd-even watering schedule, where residents and businesses with even-number addresses water their yards on even-numbered days, and the opposite for those with odd-numbered addresses.

Along with the odd-even schedule, MacCormack said there are numerous ways residents can watch their water, such as watering their lawn at night when there’s no evaporation.
