SIGA donates $10,000 to the new Sask. Hospital

A group which operates multiple casinos in the province has made a donation to support mental health.

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) has donated $10,000 towards furnishing the new Saskatchewan Hospital.

“It shows what we do for our communities,” Pat Cook, vice-president of corporate affairs for SIGA, said. “In any community we are in, we support local causes and what a better cause than helping these people who need this new facility.”

Cook was approached by Prairie North Health Region about the philanthropic opportunity.

“We have $1.2 million we give out annually and $10,000 is a significant amount for us. We definitely like to do health initiatives because it impacts everyone. I have family members who have been impacted by mental illness and I think it needs a bigger profile. I want to encourage other organizations to help this cause as well,” Cook said.

The money will put a small dent into the $8 million needed to furnish and equip the new Sask Hospital.

SIGA owns and operates six casinos in Saskatchewan.
