Boy struck by school bus in Wakaw fights for life in hospital

A young boy who was hit by a school bus in the community of Wakaw on Thursday remains under intensive care in Saskatoon hospital.
“Cashtyn is still very critical. He is in a medical induced coma to help him heal and manage his pain,” Cashtyn’s aunt Ashleigh Harder, wrote on Facebook.
“He’s still sedated, but tries to wake up at times; squeezes his mom’s hand and wiggles his feet around,” she said.
Harder said Cashtyn’s doctors were hopeful they could move up a second surgery to Saturday instead of Sunday.
“We won’t know for sure until the doctors do their rounds Saturday.”
Cashtyn ruptured his spleen, diaphragm and pancreas in the incident. He also lost a lot blood, Harder said in the online post to update people on his condition.
The collision happened about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
RCMP say it appears the seven-year-old boy and the bus were travelling in the same direction a block north of the school.
A passerby took the boy to the school where he was treated by EMS before being airlifted to a hospital in Saskatoon.
Police say the boy was reported to have been wearing a helmet.
