Discount airline ready to take off again

Jun 23, 2016 | 2:00 PM

Four months after its wings were clipped, a new discount airline has resumed selling tickets, and flights will begin July 25.

NewLeaf Travel Company Inc. has relaunched its plans for a discount air carrier, with Saskatoon and Regina among the cities it serves. In a news release, the company says it works to save costs, in order to offer lower base fares. Part of its policy is to treat services like carry-on and checked baggage as “a-la-carte” options available for extra fees.

NewLeaf’s website is offering direct flights from Saskatoon to Hamilton and Kelowna. A one-way ticket from Saskatoon to Kelowna was listed at $89. The company said it would offer special introductory rates in certain markets that include taxes and fees.

The list of cities NewLeaf plans to serve includes Regina, Halifax, Moncton, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Kamloops, Fort St. John, Abbotsford, and Victoria.
