Two American hunters and their Kamsack guide were fined $9,800 for hunting illegally.

George Keewatin pleaded guilty to guiding without a license and fined $7,000 in North Battleford Provincial Court June 8. The hunters each paid a $1,400 fine and had their licenses suspended for a year.

Keewatin and his clients were stopped in November of 2015 in the Grand Cheviot Pasture, north of Paynton, and discovered to be in violation of Saskatchewan hunting laws.

The trio was only licensed to hunt on First Nation land but were 70 km away from the Mosquito reserve.
