Semi-truck tire starts brush fire

Jun 22, 2016 | 6:29 AM

An overheated wheel bearing led to an overnight brush fire east of the Battlefords.

North Battleford Fire Department was called at 12:52 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, to a fire alongside Highway 16, 13 km east of the city. The fire amassed only a small area and firefighters had it contained in 20 minutes.

The investigation found an overheated bearing caused a tire assembly to fly off a semi into the bushes beside the railway tracks. The brush then caught fire.
