Human remains found in torched car outside N.B.

Jun 20, 2016 | 10:53 AM

North Battleford RCMP have numerous questions after human remains were found inside a burning car.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, June 17 between North Battleford and Mosquito First Nation on Highway 4. RCMP said the four-door blue Hyundai Elantra was fully engulfed by flame when they arrived.

When the fire was finally extinguished, human remains were found in the back seat.

The remains haven’t been identified, but are believed to be of an adult male.

RCMP said five people were in the car before it caught fire. They left the car, then hitched a ride to Mosquito with two passersby.

The five have been located, and RCMP are now searching for passersby, or anyone else who saw the vehicle before or during the blaze.

An autopsy on the human remains is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 22.

Anyone with information is urged to contact North Battleford RCMP or Crimestoppers.
